Mental Health

Nowadays, almost everyone has some type of insurance. Many people exercise regularly and watch what they eat to take care of their bodies. However, many people do not take the same care when it comes to their mental health. It is important to find a qualified mental health care provider if you are hurting emotionally.

An untreated mood disorder can be just as harmful as an untreated physical disease over time. People who suffer from conditions such as depression and anxiety often do not live to their full potential. It is our goal at Synergy Mental Wellness to help our patients manage their conditions, so they can have a happy and fulfilling life.

Behavioral Health

There are seven different schools of psychiatric thought. Some of them are no longer used by psychologists.

Structuralists were the first psychologists. They broke down the mental process into basic components. Functionalists looked at how those components function. Gestalt psychologists believed the whole of a person was greater than its parts. They did not believe in analyzing small experiences or personality traits.

Behaviorists believe a person’s outlook is based on environmental causes rather than their internal psychological makeup.

Psychoanalysis is the school of thought most people think of when they think of psychotherapy. Founded by Sigmund Freud, it believes human behavior is driven by the subconscious mind.

Humanistic psychology is based on helping people realize their potential and live full lives. It is based on the idea that people must have free will to be happy.

Cognitive psychology studies how people think, process information, and learn.

Most psychotherapists and other mental health care providers are practitioners of cognitive behavioral therapy. It makes an effort to change people’s thinking patterns, so they can overcome certain psychological disorders and other problems.

At Synergy Mental Wellness, we believe therapy should be a collaborative effort. We do practice cognitive behavioral therapy but also incorporate elements of different schools of psychological thought. If you believe traditional psychoanalysis will help you, tell us during your initial session.

What Kind Of Services Do You Provide?

Synergy Mental Wellness focuses its services on ADHD and mood disorders. All of the members of our staff are trained in traditional therapeutic methods. However, we keep up with the latest studies and literature.

The people of Seattle are sophisticated and educated. We understand what therapy is designed to accomplish and want to provide the highest level of service possible.

There are a few mental health conditions our staff specializes in. If you or a loved one is struggling with one of them, you can fill out our new patient form to get more information.

ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a chronic condition that makes it difficult for a person to concentrate. A person suffering from ADHD will normally be hyperactive and act impulsively.

A person who suffers from ADHD may have learning problems. They may suffer from low self-esteem. If a person cannot concentrate, they are likely to struggle professionally. If a person cannot carry on a quiet conversation, they are likely to struggle to maintain relationships, both romantic and familial.

We treat ADHD with a combination of talk therapy and drugs. Stimulants are one of the best treatments for ADHD, and in some cases, antidepressants may work.

If you visit us for ADHD, we will try to help you think in a more organized way. We will try to develop problem-solving skills and curb your impulsive behavior.

Anxiety

Although it is normal to be anxious in certain situations, people with anxiety disorder experience constant worry and fear, even when there is nothing to be particularly upset about. They may struggle to breathe, have heart palpitations, and have shaky hands when there is no reason to. Psychologists put anxiety into several different categories.

Anxiety not only debilitates people’s ability to live normal lives but can also be very physically dangerous. If a person’s heart rate is constantly faster than it should be, it can lead to problems like high blood pressure and heart failure.

Benzodiazepines are an effective drug for treating anxiety. They include Klonopin, Librium, and Valium.

Therapy for an anxiety disorder often involves relaxation exercises. It also involves changes to diet and exercise. We may concentrate on teaching a patient to be more assertive and try to build their self-esteem.

Depression

It is only natural to be depressed in some situations. If a friend or loved one dies, or if you end a relationship, it can cause you to feel very sad.

Major depressive disorder occurs when a person feels sad for no reason. They may have a sense of hopelessness and be unable to sleep or eat. A person who is depressed will often lose sexual drive and interest in things that have made them happy in the past.

Untreated depression can lead to suicidal thoughts. People with depression may have trouble maintaining their careers and fulfilling ordinary tasks like paying bills.

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are often used to treat depression conditions. Serotonin is a chemical in the body that regulates mood. People with depression often have very low levels of serotonin in their bodies, and these drugs can help to restore it to normal levels.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a very popular way to treat depression. We try to change a person’s thought patterns so they think more positively and realistically. We also try to change unhealthy behaviors that affect emotions, such as substance abuse or other forms of self-harm.
